September 26 (RACE DAY!!!!! =0 )

Boy was today a very looooonnnnggg day. Well at least it seemed like that. First i was up very late on Friday night(I went on a date =) ) and didnt get back home until like 1 in the morning. That was a bit my fault since I could of picked a different movie or even a different movie time. Anyways I put my alarm for 5 am. The reason i put it so early was due to the fact that I had to come from Caldwell to Boise and its almost a 30-45 min drive, depending on traffic. Anyways I didnt wake up until 515. I hit the snooze like twice and finally decided to get up and going. I didnt think it was going to be so cold so i decided to wear shorts and a short sleeve shirt. That was a HUGE mistake. It was a very cold morning and I was freezing my butt off. I raced into Boise since i only had 30 mins left after getting ready. I made it to BSU at 550 and I parked my car in towers general parking. I decided to walk to the Ann Morrison park(dont ask me why) and it was still dark outside. I didnt know if i was going the right way at first but if worse came to worse I would only be a couple minutes late. I walked through the wet grass and my shoes got so wet it made my feet hurt from how cold they were. I finally got to the middle of the park and there was a tent were we had to sign in at. There was quite a few of volunteers(more than what i expected) out there. We were given intructions on how to set up the tents and we built them. We then put some of the food out as we were instructed to. All of this only took us an hour and it was supposedly supposed to take us around 2-3 lol. Well since we were done we just stood there freezing and getting to know each other. There were a lot of people doing the service learning program. Well at least to me it seemed like there was a bunch. Anyways around 830 one of the coordinatoors came up and ask if 3 of us would like to go to the water tent and share waters. I didnt want to just stand there so me and two other people decided to go with the coordinatoor. We started to open up the water boxes and put water on the tables. Then we realized how bad of an idea was for people to grab their own water so we appointed a couple of people to hand them out(I was one of them). The racers didnt show up until 9ish and thats when the day just began to fly. There were so many woman and their daughters running it was a very good sight to see. People were happy to finish and get a water bottle. Time went by so fast the next time i look at my cell phone to see what time it was it was almost 1. I was pretty sure that I had enough hours in so i decided to go to the check in place and the lady said i was right i had all my hours in. =) i was happy so i told her thanks for the t-shirt and she thank me for coming out and helping. It was such a wonderful experience I think imma volunteer next year and see if i can score another sweet shirt!

September 23 (Woman's Show Loading Dock)

So today was a very long day for me! =/ It started with my showing up at the Woman's show and getting my light green volunteer shirt first. Not going to lie I think this shirt is going to make a super cool workout tee. I bet ill get people to ask me about the event. Anyways it was around 1 when i started at the Womans show. I got sent to the loading dock. I was supposed to help vendors get their stuff off their cars and to the area where they were assigned. At first there was a couple of cars here and there. Some of the time I was there I was talking to more of the volunteers and getting to know them. One of the older ladies that i got to meet(Kate) she worked at St Lukes and they were supposed to volunteer at least 10 hours that whole week. So she was doing 5 hours today and was playing on coming back the next day to finish up the last 5. Anyways since i started at 1 i got a break at 5 to go get something to eat. I since I was downtown I had many options to choose from. I decided to run to the Shell that was on Capital. I got a bag of chips and I was on my way back. Once i got back I got told that I need to go to the loading dock since some of the volunteers didnt show up. I went there as soon as I could and waited for more vendors to start to show up. Since i was only supposed to work until 6 i decided to walk around the show when i had 5 mins left. There were a lot of people there and it look pretty interesting. I got to meet a lot of new people by working on the docks. I hope that they come out on Saturday and help out with race day! =)

September 21 (Race Number Labeling)

So today was the first official day that we had to do our project hours. I signed up to do the race number labeling since the ladies said they were a bit short on people for that day and putting the label on the race numbers was a pretty huge thing to do. The time that we were supposed to get to the place(1500 Shoreline) was 5, but i got there 30 mins earlier. I wasnt sure where the building was that's why I got there so early. Anyways once i found the building i saw two of the ladies from the office that were in charge of the event. They gave me instruction on how the labels were supposed to put on and I got to working. I probably spent like 20 minutes putting labels by myself before someone finally showed up. When i first signed up for the event I thought it was a local thing only. Boy was i wrong when putting the labels on the numbers i saw people that were from out of state coming down to race that day. Anyways we finished 20 minutes early but the head coordinatoor said she would write down that we were there until 7 since we did such a good job. She came up to me and said "Instead of just 2 hours you were here an extra 30 mins and I will validate that. I'll write downt that you worked for 2 and half hours." That wa s good news =)

September 10

So today was orientation day for the Womans Fitness show. There was a little problem to the time that it was scheduled so i had to get permission from my spanish teacher to leave 15 minutes into class. I arrived there at 130 and it didnt start until 2. Good thing i got there early and was the first one there, since they started orientation 15 mins earlier than planned. They explained how the office where we were at was run by 4 woman all year long. (All 4 of them plan for the event every year its been going). They started to talk about the event a lot and they gave us a sheet for us to sign up for an events that we would of liked to participaten in. They also had us give them our shirt size since i guess we get a free shirt =)

September 1

So today I decided that i was going to go ahead and participate in the 2009 St. Lukes Women's Fitness Celebration. The reason I think that I'm go ahead and take part in this event is due to the fact I can get all my hours in, in a week! =) That way later on in the semester I won't have to worry about it as much and I will already have my project done. The only thing that might be wierd is that this is a WOMENS event and I think imma be one of the few male volunteers. Well I hope all goes well! =)
